What is EMF file format?
The EMF file format is a vector graphics file format developed by Microsoft to replace their earlier WMF format. It is used to store and exchange vector drawings, raster images, text, and other graphical elements in a compact and efficient way. An EMF file can be created or edited with numerous software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. In contrast to other image file formats such as JPEG, EMF files are not intended for printing. They are optimized for display on electronic devices, such as computer monitors, smartphones, and tablets. EMF files are primarily used to exchange graphics with other programs and to publish web graphics. The EMF file format contains a set of commands which instruct the graphics device to draw shapes, render text, and output raster images. It also contains a device context that specifies the current state of the graphics device, such as the color and line width of the shapes being drawn, and the size and resolution of the output device. EMF files can be converted to other graphics formats, such as SVG, PDF, and TIFF, using dedicated conversion tools.
